Hey Hey,
I used to think that if my education was good enough, once would do it.
Give the education, wipe my hands together, donzo. Get them on a reformer, and we are done.
This week I've been running classes and one-on-ones and thinking about how much we actually need to change someone's pain.
Think
Reflect on your week.
Have you got someone you've educated and it still didn't move the needle?
I challenge you, instead of thinking you did a shit job, to think about dosage.
How many minutes of education did you actually give them?
Learn
Salazar-Méndez and colleagues 2023.
Not the best systematic review, but it highlighted one thing for me.
23 studies. 2352 people.
- 100 to 200 minutes before fear of movement shifts.
- Around 400 minutes before catastrophising changed.
Break that down into 30 minute sessions and that's at least 13 sessions. Waaay more than I initially thought.
Play
Add up the actual minutes of education you've given one client.
Not session time. Education time.
I'd bet it's under sixty.
Let me know what you find, this one surprised me.
Cheers
Jess
PS — oi, don't forget The Clinical Collective is free to join. Clinicians just like you, adding up their minutes and going a bit pale.
